One thing a lot of us have been wondering about is how Sony's new line of dual core NovaThor chipset phones would do on battery life tests given that they have small batteries by todays standards:
- Sony Xperia P - 1305 mAh battery with a promised 3G talk time of 5 hours
- Sony Xperia Sola - 1320 mAh battery with a promised 3G talk time of 5 hours
- Sony Xperia U - 1320 mAh battery with a promised 3G talk time of 5 hours and 36 minutes
The Sony Xperia P has the largest display at 4-inches, but comes with a MagicWhite display which is designed to save power while web browsing.
GSMArena has conducted battery life tests on the Sony Xperia P, and the results are a bit disappointing.
Talk time
Samsung Galaxy S III - 10:20
HTC One X - 9:57
Samsung Galaxy S II - 8:35
Nokia Lumia 800 - 8:25
Sony Xperia P - 5:33
Web browsing
Samsung Galaxy S III - 5:17
Samsung Galaxy S II - 4:24
HTC One X - 4:18
Nokia Lumia 800 - 4:07
Sony Xperia P - 3:59
Video playback
Samsung Galaxy S III - 10:0
Samsung Galaxy S II - 8:00
Nokia Lumia 800 - 5:52
HTC One X - 5:45
Sony Xperia P - 4:30
In fairness, the tests show that the Xperia P exceeds Sony's claims on talk time. Still it does not change the fact that the Xperia P does not compare very well to todays, or even last years best smartphones.
